Granola, Haven't Really Tried It Yet...

This is just a place to put this recipe, I haven't tried it yet. Anyone think of a "draft" feature yet? Or maybe you'd call it "brewing..." ;)

Group A:

  • 7 c rolled oats (half old-fashioned and half quick, though it probably doesn't matter much)
  • 2 c of coconut, large unsweetened flakes
  • 1 1/2 to 2 cups nuts, either whole, chopped or slivered (optional)
  • ½ c of ground flax seed (optional)
  • 1 c of wheat germ (optional)

Group B:

  • 1 c of canola oil or (2 sticks) melted butter
  • 1/3 to 1/2 cup honey (I use the lesser amount. All of it makes it too sweet for me)
  • 1 ¼ c brown sugar (I used a bit less and added some maple syrup)
  • 1/3 milk
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ c real maple syrup

  1. Mix all of Group A ingredients in a very large bowl.

  2. Then, mix Group B ingredients in a large microwavable bowl or in a saucepan.

  3. Heat mixture B in microwave for about 40 seconds or heat on stovetop until smooth and warmed-through, and stir.

  4. Pour liquid mixture over the dry ingredients (mix A) and stir with a big spoon until all ingredients are thoroughly mixed and wet.

  5. Bake in 2 9 x 13" pans or one very large cookie sheet, ungreased.

  6. Bake for 25 minutes at 325

  7. Switch pan positiions or stir cookie sheet.

  8. Bake another 15 minutes at 225.

  9. At this time, you could add a cup of dried fruit, such as cherries, craisins, raisins, or whatever.

  10. Stir.

  11. Bake another 10 minutes at 225.

  12. Turn off oven and leave granola in for one hour.

  13. Take it out, cool, break into desired sized chunks, and store in an airtight container.
