This is my polish great grandmother's Easter bread. It make a very large loaf.
- 2 c warm milk
- 3 eggs
- 1 c sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 package of yeast
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1/4 lb butter, softened
- 1 pinch diluted saffron
- 1 tsp salt
- 7 c flour
- grated orange rind
- raisins, optional
Mix milk, butter and egg in a large bowl.
In a small or med bowl, mix spices, salt and sugar. Add 1 cup flour and yeast.
Slowly add dry mix to wet mix. Mix. Add more flour as needed to get the right consistency.
Let dough rise until it doubles in size.
The add raises, if using.
Spread flour on work surface. Remove dough. Kneed until it won't stick to counter or you hear it squeek.
Shape. My grandmother braided it.
I let it rise one more time, but you don't have to.
Bake at 350 deg F for 30 to 35 min
