This is the standard buttercream iceing that Wilton uses in their classes. As a variant, try using half butter half shortening...
Ingredients
- 1 c shortening
- 1 tsp flavor (vanilla, almond, etc)
- 2 tbsp milk or water (if you want a thinner consistency, add more milk or water)
- 1 lb confectioners' sugar (about 4 cups)
- 1 tbsp Meringue powder (I use 1 1/2 tbsp of Egg Replacer) - optional, some of their recipes use this, some don't
Instructions
Cream the shortening, flavor and water.
Add dry ingredients and mix on medium speed until mixed together. Blend until creamy.
Add food coloring, if desired.
