Easy Homemade Ketchup

I am not sure if I want to make my own ketchup. But, it's kinda cool to know how to do it, if I am every stuck....


  • 1 ½ tbsp olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 (28-ounce) can whole tomatoes, pureed in a blender and strained to remove any seeds
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • ½ c cider vinegar
  • ½ c packed brown sugar
  • ¼ tsp ground ginger
  • ¼ tsp ground allspice
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp pepper


  1. Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add onion and sauté for 5 minutes until softened. Add remaining ingredients and stir to combine. Bring mixture to a simmer and cook uncovered for 1 hour, stirring occasionally. Transfer to a blender and blend until smooth. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
