English Muffins

Ingredients

  • 2 ¼ c bread flour
  • ½ tbsp sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 ¼ tsp yeast
  • 1 tbsp shortening or butter, at room temp
  • ¾ c milk or butter milk, room temp (may need more)

Instructions

  1. Stir together flour, sugar, salt and yest. Stir in shortening and milk until it forms a ball. It should be soft.

  2. Kneed dough. Put in bowl, cover, and let rise for 60-90 min

  3. Wipe counter with damp cloth. Divide dough into 6 pieces. Shape. Put on parchment paper lined cookie sheet to rise. Let rise for 60-90 min.

  4. Heat skillet or griddle to medium (350deg F). Also preheat oven to 350 deg.

  5. Brush pan/griddle with veggie oil. Put on griddle (at least 1 inch apart). Cooke for 5-8 min until the bottom can't cook any more. Carefully flip and cook for another 5-8 min.

  6. Bake in oven for 5-8min.

  7. Cool for 30 min before serving.
