Vegan Whole Wheat Waffles

Great for a Belgian waffle maker!


  • 1 ¾ c whole wheat flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tbsp raw cane sugar
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 ½ c almond milk (or other plant-based milk, soy, oat, etc.)
  • 2 chia eggs (2 T chia seeds + 6 T water)
  • 3 tbsp melted coconut oil


  1. Preheat waffle iron.

  2. Combine dry ingredients in a mixing bowl.

  3. Add remaining wet ingredients to mixing bowl. Stir until well combined.

  4. Pour waffle dough onto waffle iron and bake according to manufacturers instructions.

  5. Serve with maple syrup, fresh fruit, and/or whipped coconut cream.

  6. Note: To make a chia egg, combine 1 T of chia (or flax) seeds with 3 T of water. Let sit for 10-15 minutes until a gel forms. This is ONE chia egg. This recipe calls for two so use 2 T chia seeds with 6 T of water.

  7. Alternatively, use 2 pureed bananas in place of the chia eggs.
