Golden Layer Cake

This is a great basic vanilla cake.


  • 10 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 c cake or all-purpose flour
  • 1 ¼ c sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extra
  • ¼ tsp almond extract
  • 2 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¾ c milk


  1. Preheat oven to 350 deg F

  2. Butter/grease and flour 2 9-in cake pans

  3. Cream together the butter until smooth. Than gradually add the sugar. Beat until light (about 3 min).

  4. Beat in the eggs, one at a time. Than the vanilla and almond extract.

  5. Combine the flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl.

  6. Alternate adding the flour mix and the milk to the egg mix. Add slowly. Stir until smooth.

  7. Put batter in the pans.

  8. Bake for 25 min, or until a toothpick comes out clean. (If doing cupcakes, cook for 20 to 25 min).

  9. Cool on rack for 5 min. Than turn over and completely cool.

  10. I usually icing the cakes, but they are good enough to eat without iceing.
