Double Chocolate Bread

Not overly sweet, chocolatey yeast bread.

Ingredients

  • 1 c warm milk
  • 1 ½ t. vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • 1 T. melted butter
  • ¾ t. salt
  • 3 T. (heaping) Sucanat
  • 4 t. unsweetened cocoa
  • 3 c. fresh ground hard wheat flour
  • 1 t. yeast
  • 2/3 c. semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ t. cinnamon (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine milk, vanilla, egg, butter and salt.

  2. Add sucanat and cocoa and mix well.

  3. Stir in half the flour and yeast until well mixed.

  4. Add remaining flour to make a soft dough.

  5. Add chocolate chips and cinnamon last and mix just until well blended.

  6. Pour into greased loaf pans and smooth top.

  7. Let rise for several hours. This bread rises very slowly!

  8. Bake at 350 for 20-30 min.
