- 2 c white sugar
- 1 c shortening (w replace 1/2 cup with butter) note-I don't use shortening so I substitute all butter... probably not exactly the same result
- 3 egg yolks
- 1 ¼ c buttermilk
- 3-4 cups flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- 4 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp almond extract
Do not double recipe!! Make one batch at a time.
Cream sugar and shortening well.
Add egg yolks and flavoring
Sift dry ingredients into a bowl.
Add batter to it, mixing well.
Cover tightly and let stand overnight in fridge
Roll out thick (or thin if that is your preference) on heavily floured board.
Sprinkle flour on top as needed to roll (lots)
Sprinkle with powdered sugar (optional)
Bake 6 minutes at 400
