Nutritional Yeast Cheese Sauce


  • ½ c nutritional yeast flakes
  • ½ c flour
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 c water
  • ¼ c margarine or vegan butter
  • ½ tsp garlic powder


  1. Mix dry ingredients in a saucepan; add water and cook over medium heat, whisking, until it thickens and bubbles.

  2. Cook 1 minute.

  3. Remove from heat and add margarine or vegan butter.

  4. A dash of red food coloring or a dash of saffron will give it a more traditional color.
